NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After battling from behind four different times during the match, the University of Arkansas soccer team took the lead when it matter most, as sophomore Ashleigh Ellenwood’s golden goal just 25 seconds into overtime sent the visiting Razorbacks (10-5, 3-4) to a thrilling 5-4 win at SEC foe Vanderbilt on Friday night.

Ellenwood scored two of the team’s season-high five goals in the match, as the overtime win was the fourth of the season for the Razorbacks and their seventh one-goal victory. Arkansas has scored in the first minute of overtime twice this season and its 10 wins are the fourth-most in program history.

“It was a crazy game,” said head coach Colby Hale, who has led Arkansas to five SEC road wins in the last two years. “We kind of expected this to be high scoring match based on both teams recent form. I am obviously proud of the team. Any time you come back four times in one game, it speaks to some of the many impressive qualities of this group. This is an important three points for us. We will celebrate tonight and get ready for a very good Tennessee team tomorrow.”

The Razorbacks trailed by one goal on two separate occasions in the first half, but goals by Ellenwood – her eighth of the season – and senior Yvonne DesJarlais evened the match at 2-2 going into the break.

Vanderbilt would strike first again in the second half to take the lead over the Razorbacks 3-2, but junior defender Allie Tripp would answer in the 66th minute with her second goal of the season to tie the match at 3-3. Tripp was able to get to the front of the net on a corner kick and head home a ball played by Tyler Allen. The assists is Allen’s team-best sixth of the season.

The scoring would not end there, though, as Vanderbilt took the lead for a fourth time in the 79th minute. Once again, the Razorbacks responded, this time it was Allen doing the scoring as she picked the perfect time for her first goal of the season at the 81:40 mark to knot the game at 4-4.

The Arkansas defense would hold strong to finish regulation and force extra minutes for the sixth time this season, setting the stage for Ellenwood’s fifth game-winning goal of the season.

The Razorbacks return to the pitch this Sunday, Oct. 20, to host Tennessee at Razorback Field. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. kick.
