LEXINGTON, Ky.  – The No. 4 Razorbacks got things rolling Thursday, kicking off the 2014 SEC Championships with the decathlon.

Nathanael Franks leads the No. 4 Razorbacks after the first five events, sitting in sixth place with 3,621 points. A second-place finish in shot put with a mark of 41-10-5 put Franks in good position heading into the final two events of the day. Franks made a final push in the last event of the day, finishing third overall in the 400-meter with a time of 49.95.

A season-best performance from Brad Culp puts the redshirt freshman in ninth place after five events with 3,459 points. Culp started the day off right with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13, breaking his previous PR of 11.15 set at the Drake Relays this year. Culp recorded two more season-bests in the long jump (21-2.75) and high jump (5-11.25) en route to a top-10 spot as he faces the final five events tomorrow.

Fellow redshirt freshman Lane Austell is in 13th place after day one, tallying 3,312 points through the first five events. On a chilly, windy day, Austell had season a-best performance in long jump (21-2.75) and shot put (37-10.5), looking to build on that momentum tomorrow and move into scoring position for the Razorbacks.

The decathlon will wrap up on Friday with the 110-meter hurdles kicking off the first of the final five events at 11 a.m (CT). Discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1,500-meter run will conclude the decathlon. For updates from the 2014 SEC Outdoor Championships follow @RazorbackTF on Twitter.
