247 student-athletes earn academic honors

FAYETTEVILLE- The University of Arkansas Athletic Department had a total of 247 student-athletes post a 3.00 grade point average or higher, with 47 earning a 4.00 for the 2012 spring semester.
Women's track and field led the Academic Champions with 13 student-athletes earning a 4.00 GPA with swimming and diving close behind with 10 honorees.
The overall student-athlete GPA for the 2011-2012 year was 3.07 improving from last year's 3.04 mark. This is also the fourth consecutive year that the Razorback student-athletes have earned above a 3.00 GPA, as a whole.
"Razorback student-athletes continue to raise the bar of academic achievement on their way toward graduation," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "With more than 240 selections to the spring academic honor roll and an overall student-athlete GPA of 3.07, our student-athletes continue to excel on the field and in the classroom. I am proud of their accomplishments and the way they are representing our program, the University of Arkansas and our state."
The Academic Champions improved from 43 student-athletes in the fall to 47 for the spring semester. Men's track and field was third behind their female counterparts and the swimming and diving team with five honorees followed by softball with four. Soccer posted three student-athletes with a 4.00 GPA while men's golf, gymnastics and volleyball all had two honorees. Men's tennis, baseball, football, women's golf, and women's basketball all had one representative make the Academic Champions List.

The 2012 spring semester finished with 92 razorbacks earning the Athletic Director's List (3.50-3.99 GPA), adding nine student-athletes from fall semester. Soccer had the most with 16 followed by football, women's track and swimming and diving with 11.
The Razorbacks placed 104 student-athletes on the Department Honor Roll (3.00-3.49) with football having 19 named to the list.
