FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Razorback softball team fell 8-0 in five innings to the No. 11 Tennessee Lady Vols. This moves Arkansas's overall record to 17-8 and 1-5 in the SEC. Tennessee improves to 18-5 overall and 2-2 in the SEC.
Arkansas could not get its bats swinging in the opening game of the series against the Lady Vols, only recording two hits on the night, a double from Clarisa Navarro and a single from Amanda Geile.
Tennessee had no problem swinging the bat recording eight runs off of seven hits. The Lady Vols struck first in the top of the first, bringing in one run giving them the 1-0 lead. Two more runs were scored in the third off a double and an error by the Razorbacks.
Tennessee scored five runs in the top of the fifth giving them an 8-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth Maddie Reese was walked and then stole a base to put her in scoring position. The Razorbacks, unfortunately were unable to bring Reese home, ending the game in five due to a run rule.
"That was a disappointing game tonight," said head coach Mike Larabee. "I know for a fact that we have a better hitting team then how we showed tonight."
Arkansas is back in action for the second game in the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Bogle Park.
Sunday's game which was scheduled for 1 p.m. is now set for noon.
"We need to come out tomorrow and play at higher level," said Larabee.
