FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team opened the Napa Challenge splitting the day 3-3 at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, Calif.
Arkansas was solid in doubles play bringing home a victory from each doubles team. Junior Hall Fess and Lehmann defeated a the Fresno State duo of Sai Kartik and Jeremy Quiroz 8-3, while Jeske and Junior Mike Nott took down another tough Fresno State team of Reid DeLaubenfeis and Sam McNeil 8-5.
“We started off great with two doubles wins this morning,” head coach Robert Cox said. “I couldn’t be more proud of our two doubles teams. Those four guys just played some solid Arkansas doubles.”
Junior Manfred Jeske collected the only singles victory for the Hogs by defeating USF’s Richard Bacalem 6-4, 6-3.
Senior Gregoire Lehmann dropped a tough match in three sets to USF’s Germain Bahri 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3.
“Overall, it was a productive day,” Coach Cox said. “We are getting out there and learning each time we step out on the court. We need to come out tomorrow ready to play some more quality tennis.”
The Razorbacks will return the court on Sunday at 11 a.m. for the second day of play at the Napa Challenge. A full recap from action will be posted on ArkansasRazorbacks.com following each day's play.
