DUBLIN, Ohio – Senior Austin Cook and freshman Nicolas Echavarria each placed among the top 20 individuals and the No. 10 University of Arkansas men’s golf team finished tied for seventh at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Muirfield Village Golf Course in Dublin, Ohio.

Arkansas improved two strokes from Monday’s first-round, shooting 44-over par as a team, 15 strokes behind tournament champion, Kent State whose low round for the day vaulted it from fourth to first.  Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt tied for second at 32-over par, three strokes behind Kent State, with Kentucky (+33) and Central Florida (+41) rounding out the top five.  Due to weather delays on Monday, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes.

Cook shot Arkansas’ best round of the day with a two-over par, 74, placing him 17th overall at nine-over for the tournament. Opening on No. 10, Cook had an eventful opening five holes as he posted bogey, birdie, double bogey, birdie, bogey and was two-over par.  He would settle down and sank four straight par putts to complete the back nine, but found himself four-over par after 11 holes after back-to-back bogeys.  Saving his best for last, the elder statesman of the team played the final seven holes at two-under par to arrive at his final score.

Echavarria’s tie for 18th individually was the highest finish of his young Razorback career as he shot 10-over for the tournament, six-over for the day.  Also starting from No. 10, Echavarria did not have a great start as he bogeyed five of his first eight holes, but sank a birdie to close the back side of the course and made the turn at four-over.  He would remain at four-over par through 17 holes with a pair of birdies and bogeys on the front nine until No. 9, his final hole where he posted double bogey.

Freshman Taylor Moore also shot six-over par on the day and had what may have been the least rocky of the Arkansas rounds.  The first-year player sank 13 pars, four bogeys and a double bogey to arrive at his score and made the turn at two-over par.  Moore’s round tied him for 39th overall at 15-over par.

Junior Joe Dormaus completed Arkansas’ scoring on Tuesday with a seven-over par round, 79.  The Little Rock, Ark., native carded two birdies, seven bogeys and a double bogey on his final 18 holes to finish tied for 39th.  He has also accounted for five rounds out of five played that have counted toward Arkansas’ team total.

Junior Sebastian Cappelen rounded out the two-day affair with a round of 81, nine-over par.  Cappelen’s score reflected a trio of double bogeys, four bogeys and a single birdie as he tied for 28th overall at 13-over par.

The Razorbacks complete the fall schedule, October 21-23 at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.
