Cappelen, Cook Three Back at Patriot

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior Sebastian Cappelen and senior Austin Cook of the University of Arkansas men’s golf team are each tied for third after 36 holes at the Patriot All-American golf tournament at The Wigwam Gold Course located in Litchfield Park, Ariz.  The Patriot is a tournament that features PING All-Americans from all divisions of NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA and AJGA ranks and is a 54-hole event hosted in conjunction with the tournament’s beneficiary, the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Cappelen and Cook are two of three Razorbacks playing in the 84-person, invitation only event, as they are joined by freshman Taylor Moore.  Each player in the field is playing in honor of a fallen United States military person.  Cappelen is honoring Army First Sergeant Blue C. Rowe; Cook is playing for Army Sergeant First Class Collin J. Bowen and Moore for Marine Corporal Timothy D. Roos.

Cappelen was tied for the lead after 18 holes after shooting an opening round of two-under par, 68.  He followed that round up with even par, 70, on Sunday to fall out of the lead, but well within striking distance of the lead.  Over his first two rounds, the Dane has eight birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey and he has played the back nine of each of his rounds at a combined two-under par.

Cook’s first two days were the opposite of his Razorback teammates in that he shot even par, 70, on day one and came back to improve with a two-under par, 68, on Sunday.  Cook has taken advantage of the course’s front nine on both days as he is a combined four-under par on those holes.  Cook, a Jonesboro, Ark., native, has avoided any big mistakes in each round, but has played the final two holes of the course at three-over par, leaving room for improvement on the final day.

Moore is tied for 33rd after 36 holes with rounds of five-over par, 75, and one-over par, 71.  The Edmond, Okla., native showed marked improvement between his first and second days and finished his second round with 11 straight pars.  After a single birdie and six bogeys in his opening 18 holes, Moore came back with two birdies and just three bogeys.  At six-over par, Moore is five strokes outside the top 15.

Moore begins his final round at the Patriot at 9:20 a.m. from the first tee with Cook playing in the second-to-last group at 11 a.m.  Cappelen will play with 36-hole leader Cody Proveaux of Clemson and Richey Werenski of Georgia Tech in the final grouping at 11:10 a.m. from the first tee.
