MARICOPA, Ariz. – Entering the day with a four-stroke lead, Arkansas men’s golf sophomore Taylor Moore didn’t allow the other 107 players in the field at the inaugural Saguaro Amateur to mount a comeback by firing his third straight under-par round to capture the title at Southern Dunes Golf Club on Sunday.

Moore’s four-stroke leading entering the final round was due to an opening round five-under 66 that was followed by a six-under 65 on Saturday. After making just his second bogey of the tournament on the first hole Sunday, Moore went bogey-free the rest of the way, making both of his birdies on par 3s to shoot one-under 71 and solidify the three-stroke victory.

“It means a lot to win this event especially with it being the first year,” said Moore. “The putter was working for me this week and last week. I had just one three-putt over the two tournaments and I also managed my game really well and controlled the ball going into the greens. This definitely gives me some confidence, but is just a step in the right direction in a spring full of hard work.”

Over the 54 holes on the 7,196-yard, par 71 course, Moore carded 38 pars, 14 birdies and just two bogeys. He played the par 35 front nine at seven-under over the three rounds, highlighted by a 29 in round two. Moore’s 12-under score broke down into five-under on the par 5s, four-under on the par 4s and three-under on the par 3s.

It was quite a week for Moore, who finished in a tie for third at the Patriot All-America two days before teeing off at the Saguaro Amateur. Playing alongside teammate Sebastian Cappelen, who won the Patriot All-America in 2012, and also finished third this year, Moore shot rounds of two-under 68, even-par 70 and two-under 68 in his first event over the seven-day stretch.

Over his six rounds in Arizona at the Patriot All-America and Saguaro Amateur, Moore produced a 67.8 stroke average with every round at even-par or lower. Moore finished with 74 pars, 25 birdies and nine bogeys. He played his final 81 holes during his trip in Arizona at 18-under par.

Moore and the No. 23 Razorbacks will open their spring season on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Gator Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be held at Mark Bostick Golf Course.
