WINDERMERE, Fla. – Freshman Taylor Moore opened competition at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational on Sunday with a round of 69, three-under par, to lead the No. 15 University of Arkansas men’s golf team and place himself in a  tie for fourth individually.

The Razorbacks shot 12-over par as a team on Sunday, a total that tied for 10th in the team standings, but only the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation, California and Texas, respectively, would shoot at or below par.  The Razorbacks, who are the eighth highest ranked team in a loaded field, are just six shots outside the top five.

Moore’s day did not start the way he would have liked as he posted a bogey on the first hole.  The rest of the front nine saw him sink three birdies and five pars and it wasn’t until the 16th hole of the day where Moore would bogey again.  On the day the Edmond, Okla., native carded five birdies and two bogeys.  His round of 69 is one stroke off his collegiate best for a single round and has him two strokes behind Michael Kim of California for medalist honors.

Senior Austin Cook posted Arkansas’ second-best round on Sunday when he finished at three-over par, 75, on the par 72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Country Club course.  Shooting one-under par on the front nine, Cook was four-over on the back nine to achieve his final score.  Even par on the par five holes, Cook’s over-par score came mostly on the par fours as he played those at two-over par for the round.

Making the most of his opportunities on the course, junior Joe Doramus posted his sixth score of the season that counted toward Arkansas’ team score in six rounds.  Shooting five-over par, 77, on the day, Doramus sank a bogey on No. 1 and was four-over par when he made the turn.  His only birdie of the day came on the par four, 12th, but by playing the back nine at just one-over par, Doramus was able to notch a credible score that tied for 50th in the 75-man field.

After a difficult opener, freshman Nicolas Echavarria settled in and made the most of his day.  A triple bogey on the first hole had the first-year player trying to play catch up, but playing like a veteran, he did not allow his mistake on No. 1 to carry over to the rest of the round.  Echavarria posted just four bogeys and 13 pars during the rest of his round for his score of 79, seven-over par.

Junior William Meason ended the day at eight-over par, 80, in his 2012-13 debut.  Opening with back-to-back-to-back bogeys, the Georgia native sank six pars to close the front nine at three-over par.  A gaff on the par three, 11th, resulted in a triple bogey and he closed the round with two additional bogeys for his final score.

The Razorbacks play round two of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational beginning at 8:25 a.m. eastern from the 10th tee with players from Texas Tech and North Florida.
