FAYETTEVILLE - Following a standout junior season, Jasmine Norton has earned a spot on the All-South Region Team as announced Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Norton is one of six players selected to the All-Region Honorable Mention Team.
During the 2011 season, Norton averaged 3.63 kills per set and 4.21 points per set. Both figures ranked fifth among all players in the Southeastern Conference. She registered a season-high 27 kills twice in five-set road matches at Georgia and No. 16 Kentucky. Overall, Norton finished the season with double-digit kills in 24 of Arkansas' 31 matches. She also tallied 10 double-double performances, including nine during conference play.
Norton began the year as a Preseason All-SEC Selection. She went on earn two SEC Player of the Week honors and West Point Challenge All-Tournament Team accolades. Norton also reached a career milestone in 2011 when she became the 14th player in program history to join the 1,000-kill club. The Rowlett, Texas, native currently sits in sixth place on that list with 1,350 career kills.
In addition to her postseason latest honor, Norton was also named to the All-SEC First Team and COBRA Magazine Midsouth All-Region Team. The all-conference selection for Norton is the third of her career and initial stint as a member on the First Team. She is the sixth player in program history to earn three All-SEC accolades.
Norton was previously recognized by the AVCA during the 2009 season when she became the sixth All-American in program history. She was also honored by the association as that year's South Region Freshman of the Year and All-Region Honorable Mention performer. The Rowlett, Texas, native is the 10th player in program history to earn multiple regional accolades.
As an all-region selection, Norton is now eligible for selection to a 2011 AVCA All-America team. Those honors will be announced Wednesday, Dec. 14.
