FAYETTEVILLE – Incoming Razorback volleyball freshman Liz Fortado collected a pair of honors for her performances at the USAV Girls’ Junior National Championships and Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Game. At the national competition, Fortado was named to the 18 Open Division All-Tournament Team. She followed with a Most Valuable Player performance in her home state’s all-star game.

Competing in the 18 Open Division at the 2012 USAV Girls’ Junior National Championships, Fortado led her TAV Black 18 club to a 6-1 record in pool play and an overall seventh-place national finish in the 32-team field. She was one of 15 players selected to the prestigious All-Tournament team. The national club tournament was held June 28-July 7 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

As a member of the West squad in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Game, Fortado collected MVP honors after helping the team to a straight-set victory over its East opponent. The Flower Mound, Texas, native had a match-high 16 kills in her final high school performance. The Texas All-Star Game was played July 11 at Lamar High School in Arlington.

Fortado is part of Arkansas’ 2012-13 recruiting class that was recognized in May by PrepVolleyball.com as the No. 26 incoming class in the country. In addition to Fortado, that group includes Monica Bollinger (St. Louis, Mo.), Ana Jusino (Orlando, Fla.), Summer Morgan (Springdale, Ark.) and Adrien Wohlschlaeger (Conroe, Texas).

During her senior season at Marcus High School, Fortado earned Senior Aces recognition as the 75th-ranked senior in the country. She also grabbed a spot on the AVCA All-America Watch List and was named a District 8-5A First-Team performer.
