Red-White match on Saturday

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team will hold its Red-White match Saturday afternoon at Barnhill Arena. The preseason exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. (CT) start. Fans can enter Barnhill Arena though the entrances on the south side of the building.

The Red-White scrimmage will be the fan’s first look at the team which reported to campus last week and began practice Aug. 8. Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Robert Pulliza, the Razorbacks’ roster features 10 returning letterwinners from last season, including Preseason All-SEC selection Jasmine Norton. Arkansas was picked to finish third in the SEC Western Division in the coaches’ preseason poll.

In addition to Norton the 2012 Razorbacks include seniors Roslandy Acosta, Amanda Anderson, Kasey Heckelman, Marci King and Janeliss Torres-Lopez; juniors Emily Helm, Hayley Koop, Avery Lewis, Clarissa Pavey, Raymariely Santos and Ashley Vazquez; sophomore Christa Alvarez; and freshmen Monica Bollinger, Liz Fortado, Ana Sofia Jusino, Summer Morgan and Adrien Wohlschlaeger.

Pulliza’s incoming class of freshmen was ranked No. 26 in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com, the highest ranking for any class in program history.

The Razorbacks begin their 2012 season Aug. 24-25 with the Arkansas Invitational, the team’s first of two home tournaments during the year. The field for the season-opening event will include UT-Martin, Northwestern State and regional foe Kansas. Arkansas will play 18 home matches in 2012, including seven against teams that advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament.

Reserved season tickets for the 2012 volleyball season are $50 while first-time buyers can get tickets for $29. First-time season ticket buyers will also receive $20 worth of concession stand coupons from Sodexho.
