FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team is set to make two television appearances this season as announced Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference, in conjunction with ESPNU, SportSouth (SPSO) and Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS). The Razorbacks will host Kentucky in a Nov. 11 match at Barnhill Arena and play at LSU on Nov. 21 during the final week of the regular season.
Arkansas’ first match of the SEC television package will be played Nov. 11 against Kentucky in Fayetteville. First serve of the match is scheduled for noon (CT) at Barnhill Arena. The match will be carried by SportSouth. The Wildcats are one of seven teams Arkansas will play at home that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
For the third consecutive season, Arkansas and LSU will play on ESPNU. The SEC Western Division matchup between the Razorbacks and Tigers is scheduled for an 8 p.m. (CT) start on Nov. 21 at the Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La. LSU and Arkansas finished first and second, respectively, in the SEC West last season.
Areas covered by Comcast will see matches on CSS, while areas covered by Cox (LSU, Arkansas and Florida) will see matches on CST. Every ESPNU match will be streamed at WatchESPN. SportSouth and CSS matches will also be made available on ESPN3. ESPNU reaches over 73 million homes. The SportSouth telecasts will be distributed to over 30 million homes in the FOX regional footprint and the CSS package will be available in more than 10 million homes.
Combined, the networks will broadcast 18 live SEC volleyball matches this season, up from 16 in 2011. ESPNU will feature SEC volleyball on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons, while SportSouth and CSS will broadcast matches on Sundays.
The Razorbacks begin their 2012 season Aug. 24-25 with the Arkansas Invitational, the team’s first of two home tournaments during the year. The field for the season-opening event will include UT-Martin, Northwestern State and regional foe Kansas. Arkansas will play 18 home matches in 2012, including seven against teams that advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament.
