DES MOINES, Iowa – Running in her third career 400-meter final, Regina George finished in fourth place Friday at the 2012 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The Razorback junior crossed the finish line in a time of 51.68 to add five points to the team total. At the end of day three, the No. 12 University of Arkansas women’s track and field team is tied for 23rd place with eight points.

With her fourth-place finish, George posted the highest national result of her career. She finished eighth as a freshman in 2010 and was sixth across the line last year. She now owns four of the five-fastest times in school history with all four marks coming within the past month, beginning at the SEC Championships. George set the school record of 51.57 during her semifinal run Wednesday.

“I’m pretty satisfied with my finish,” George said. “Fourth place is my highest finish here so I’m happy about that. I wanted to work on getting out and finishing strong like we always talk about. I feel pretty strong going into the 4x4 tomorrow but like I said earlier, I just wanted to take one day at a time so I didn’t want to think about that during today’s race. Now I can start getting ready for that.”

In the conclusion of the heptathlon, Makeba Alcide closed out the two-day competition in 13th place overall with 5,520 points. During Saturday’s events, she had marks of 5.60m/18-4.5 in the long jump, 32.85m/107-10 in the javelin and 2:21.33 in the 800 meters. Alcide improved on her 14th-place finish from 2011 and bettered last year’s score of 5,245 points. Her total of 5,520 points is the fourth best of her career.

Arkansas will have one scoring opportunity Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Razorbacks’ 4x400-meter relay team of George, Gwendolyn Flowers, Whitney Jones and Chrishuna Williams qualified for the event final with the fourth-fastest time (3:29.54) during the semifinal. The final day of competition at the national meet will be televised by ESPNU with the broadcast beginning at 11 a.m. (CT). Video coverage will also be available on ESPN3.com.
