– The University of Arkansas volleyball team lost in four sets (21-25, 25-22, 16-25, 18-25) Friday night to No. 19 Kentucky at Barnhill Arena. Senior Hayley Koop
tied for the match lead with 16 kills and junior Meredith Hays
added 10 kills against the Wildcats. With Friday’s results, the Razorbacks drop to 13-10 overall and 6-6 in Southeastern Conference play.
With her seventh dig of the match, senior Raymariely Santos
moved into 11th place on the program’s all-time digs list. She moved past Iva Docekalova (2002-05) and now has 892 during her Razorback career. Senior libero Emily Helm
had seven digs in the second set, her 27th set of the year with at least six digs and her 17th during the conference season. The Queen Creek, Ariz., native finished the night with 14 digs.
With the score tied at 15-all in the first set, Kentucky (16-5, 8-2 SEC) used a three-point push to take the lead for good. The Razorbacks pulled to within two as late as 23-21 after consecutive kills from Koop before the visitors won the last two points to take the opener. Both teams hit over .300 in the first; Koop led all players with six kills in the set.
The Razorbacks took their first lead of the set at 12-10 after back-to-back errors from the Wildcats. The score was tied at 14-all when the Razorbacks reeled off five points in a row to re-establish its advantage on the scoreboard. Kentucky was down just one at 23-22 to force a timeout from head coach Robert Pulliza
. The Razorbacks responded by winning the next two points to even the match at one set each.
Freshman Barbara Dapic
came in off the bench to post five kills in nine swings during the final two sets. In addition to her seven digs, Santos filled the box score with 24 assists and six kills. Kentucky used early runs to establish leads in sets three and four to close out the match.
Arkansas closes out the weekend home stand Sunday with a match against Ole Miss. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. (CT) at Barnhill Arena. The match will feature the Razorbacks’ Spike Out Hunger canned food drive with free admission for those that bring two or more canned goods. Additionally, the first 100 fans to donate two or more canned goods will receive a coupon for a free hotdog.
