Seven on NACGC/W team

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas gymnasts combined for seven All-America honors in 2011 and now the Razorbacks have closed the year with seven Academic Scholar-Athlete honors from the National Association for Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women.

Senior Stacy Bartlett, sophomore Natalie Bohonsky, sophomore Kelci Lewis, junior Jaime Pisani, junior Genny Salvatore, senior Michelle Stout and freshman Bailee Zumwalde earned scholar-athlete honors from the NACGC/W for 2011.

Bartlett had a 3.75 grade point average in nutrition and hospitality, Bohonsky a 3.72 GPA in journalism, Lewis a 3.85 in kinesiology, Pisani a 3.89 in kinesiology, Salvatore a 4.0 in art, Stout a 3.88 in recreation and sport management and Zumwalde a 3.74 in kinesiology.

"Our goal is to have one of the top programs in the country both in the gym and in the classroom," co-head coach René Cook says. "This group worked hard. They represented us well with a top 10 finish in the gym and now they've made us proud with their work in the classroom."

The seven selections are the most for Arkansas since 2006 when nine made the list.

Arkansas has placed a minimum of five Razorbacks on the list every year since the program began in 2003. Six Razorbacks were on the team last year.

Salvatore earned all-scholar honors for the third time while Bartlett, Bohonsky, Lewis, Pisani and Stout have been recognized twice.

In the gym in 2011, Pisani, Lewis, sophomore Amy Borsellino and freshman Katherine Grable combined for seven All-America honors.

Pisani was first-team on floor, and second-team in the all-around and on beam. Grable was first-team on floor and second-team on vault. Borsellino was first-team on vault and Lewis second-team on floor.

They helped Arkansas tie for ninth in the nation, advance to the NCAA Championship for the fourth straight season, win the NCAA North Central Regional, earn an NCAA bid for the eighth-straight year, finish in the top 15 for the seventh-straight year, tie for the SEC regular-season championship, record two wins over No. 1-ranked Florida, set school records with five SEC wins and seven dual-meet wins, and beat 11 teams ranked in the top 25.
