FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas concluded the Razorback Classic on Sunday with another strong day of play. The team earned a win in doubles and singles, and battled into the third set in three singles matches.
“It was a very high quality day of tennis,” head coach
Michael Hegarty said. “I was impressed with our level of play. We showed some inexperience which was the only thing that prevented us from having a spectacular day. Playing long, three set matches was a big plus for us.”
Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez got Arkansas’ singles victory. She defeated Missouri’s Madison Rhyner 7-6, 6-4, finishing the Razorback Classic with a 2-1 record.
The other three Razorbacks singles matches all were very competitive, going into a third set in each. Kimberley – Ann Surin took Tulsa’s Samantha Vickers to a third set before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Yang Pang lost her dual with Tulsa’s Michelle Farley 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 after winning her previous two singles matches at the tournament.
Sarah McLean fell to Tulsa’s Isaura Enrique 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
Arkansas split their doubles matches. Kimberley – Ann Surin and
Yang Pang earned their second doubles win of the tournament, defeating Tulsa’s duo of Benito / Rivera Perez 8-5.
Sarah McLean and
Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez fell 8-1 to Tulsa’s Vickers/Enrique.
“We got a lot out of the tournament,” Hegarty said. “We played twenty-five matches and saw a lot of things improve throughout the weekend.”
The Razorbacks continue their fall schedule with the ITA Central Regional, which will begin on October 19 in Tulsa, Okla.
