TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Junior Stanley Kebenei earned All-American honors as the No. 10 University of Arkansas men’s cross country team capped its 2013 season on a freezing Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., in 12th place at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.

Kebenei finished in 6th place for the race with a time of 30:10.1 after he navigated the course in the lead of the chase pack behind the two front runners of the race to earn his first All-American honor as a Razorback. Senior Kemoy Campbell was the second Razorback to cross the line with a time of 30:52.2, finishing in 46th place after leading the race the first lap around the course.

“It was a good race for me, it was really cold, but a fair race for everyone,” Kebenei said. “I just went out and did my best. Coach Bucknam always tells me I am a good athlete but I need to make sure I run a smart race. When I was running, I was watching the other guys around me in the chase pack and I waited to make my move and I finished really well.”

Senior Solomon Haile and sophomore Gabe Gonzalez were the Razorbacks third and fourth runners to cross in 104th and 109th places, respectively. Haile, an All-American in 2010, finished with a time of 31:21.5 and Gonzalez with a time of 31:23.9. Sophomore Patrick Rono was the Razorbacks’ fifth scorer in the meet finishing in 153rd place at a time of 31:48.6.

“I am really proud of our athletes, this was just really tough conditions today to race in,” head coach Chris Bucknam said. “We were hoping for a better result, there is no question about that, but we hung in there and battled hard. Nobody laid down and nobody gave up. I am just really proud of our team today for how they competed.”

The Razorbacks finished the race with 340 points for the race to finish in 12th place as a team.

Senior David Flynn was the next Razorback to cross the line in 166th place with a time of 31:55.7. Sophomore Cale Wallace would end the Razorbacks season coming across the line at 32:55.3 on the muddy course.

The 2013 Razorbacks finish the season as the NCAA South Central Region and Southeastern Conference Champions.
