FAYETTEVILLE -- University of Arkansas swimming and diving head coach Jeff Poppell has announced the signing of another swimmer to a national letter of intent. Rebekah Harvey of Austin, Texas, will join the Razorbacks in the pool in the fall of 2012.

Harvey has excelled for Nitro Swimming, one of the most competitive clubs in Texas. She was homeschooled in high school and is the eighth signee to become a part of the Razorbacks' 2012 class.

"We are extremely excited to have Rebekah joining us in the fall," Poppell said. "She has improved substantially over the past year under her coach Tim O'Brien of the Nitro Swim Club."

Harvey is versatile in the pool, largely excelling in the butterfly, freestyle and individual medley events. Poppell commented that her prowess in the butterfly may boost the team's strength in the stroke immediately.

"We feel that Rebekah has some of her best swimming still ahead of her," Poppell said. "She will have the opportunity to contribute immediately in the butterfly events. She is also an excellent student and a terrific young lady with a great deal of enthusiasm that will add greatly to our team dynamic.

Arkansas has been ranked in the top 25 nationally each of the past four seasons, and will have nine swimmers competing in the U.S. Olympic Trials this summer.
