COLLEGE STATION, Texas –  For the second time today University of Arkansas sophomore Susanna White rewrote the 100 butterfly record after clocking a blistering 53.22 to take second-place in the ‘B’ finals of the 2013 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championship. The Razorbacks finish out day three in eighth-place (280), inching closer to LSU and Missouri (297), trailing the two opponents by just 17 points.

“It was a good night tonight,” head coach Sean Schimmel said. “We didn’t have a lot of swims tonight, but the ones we had were good, and we were scoring a lot of points.”

White’s 53.22 in the 100 fly broke her preliminary time of 53.53 the Forest, Va., native set this morning. The record marks the ninth school record to fall under Schimmel this season.

“Susanna has made so much progress in the 100 fly this year,” Schimmel said. “She had really learned a lot in regards of how to swim it. She stayed focused, relaxed and confident and she went in and raced and got it done.”

Junior Julia Kucherich clocked a personal-best in the ‘C’ finals of the 400 individual medley. The junior sat back in third-place, but made up some ground on the backstroke and passed Florida’s Lauren Neidigh for second. Kucherich’s consistency allowed her to hold on for second-place to score seven points for Arkansas.

Tera Bradham also competed in the ‘C’ final and had a tremendous swim as the freshman rallied from eighth-place to fourth with a strong final two legs recording a personal-best 4:17.09, besting her preliminary time by more than three seconds (4:20.31). Bradham nabbed five points for Arkansas as the Razorbacks finished the event with a 12-point pickup, inching closer to Missouri and Louisiana State.

Arkansas would begin to close the gap after the 200 free finals with two scorers, as seventh-place LSU had just one and then-sixth-place Missouri had none. Freshman Anna Mayfield led things off with a fourth-place finish in the ‘C’ finals to score five much-needed points for the Razorbacks. Lauren Jordan represented Arkansas in the ‘B’ finals with a seventh-place finish in a close race with a time of 1:47.14. Jordan’s finish earned Arkansas 12 points. The 17-point pickup in the event was enough to cut LSU and Missouri’s lead in half, sending Arkansas into day four trailing the SEC-foes by just 17 points.

“We have four more sessions left in the meet and it’s all about finishing strong,” Schimmel said. “We have people who have only swum in one event so far and we have a lot of swims coming up next, including platform diving tomorrow.”

The Razorbacks will return to the tomorrow at 10 a.m. Arkansas will compete in the 200 fly, 100 back,  100 breast and on the platform.
