FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas women's track and field team earned 16 outdoor All-America honors as announced Tuesday morning by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The total matched the team's haul from the indoor season. Overall, the Razorbacks collected six first-team performers, six second-team honors and four honorable-mention accolades.
George is one of five first-team selections for Arkansas, and the only one to earn two such honors. Along with her fourth-place finish at 400 meters, she was part of the Razorbacks' fourth-place effort in the 4x400-meter relay with Gwendolyn Flowers, Whitney Jones and Chrishuna Williams. Arkansas' other first-team status went to Tina Sutej in recognition of her sixth-place finish in the pole vault.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Flowers, George, Jones and Tiffany Hines earned second-team honors by way of its 10th-place national finish. It was Arkansas' first appearance in the 4x100 relay since the 2004 season. The USTFCCCA All-America Second Team also included Makeba Alcide for her 13th-place showing in the heptathlon and Ivanique Kemp for finishING 13th in the 100-meter hurdles.
The final four accolades for Arkansas were honorable-mention spots for Hines at 200 meters, Jones at 400 meters, Kristen Gillespie at 1,500 meters and Brittany Hyter in the 100-meter hurdles.
With her latest honors, Jones will end her Razorback career with 15 All-America selections. George increased her career total to 13 accolades. Gillespie now has six career selections while Flowers and Sutej each earned their fifth All-America honor. Alcide received her fourth multi-event recognition, Kemp was selected for the third time while Hines, Hyter and Williams added the second All-America picks to their respective resumes.
First-team honors were given to those who placed in the championships' top eight or were a member of an eight-person final. Second-team honors were handed out to those who earned final classification between ninth and 16th place. Others who participated at the final site earned honorable mention.
