Razorback freshmen compete at USA Juniors

FAYETTEVILLE - In a continuation of their season, Razorback freshmen Shannon Klenke and Chrishuna Williams will compete this weekend at the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Klenke is scheduled to run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while Williams will race at 400 meters. The three-day meet will be contested June 15-17 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind.

During her freshman season for the Razorbacks, Klenke established a personal-best time in the steeplechase of 10:31.23 which she ran at the SEC Championships in a sixth-place performance. She was also a qualifier for the NCAA West Preliminary with the 39th-best time in the region. The 3,000-meter steeplechase will be run Friday at 6:35 p.m. (CT).

Williams finished her first collegiate season with a personal best of 54.64 at 400 meters. She was also part of Arkansas' 4x400-meter relay that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships in early June. Williams helped the team to a season-best time of 3:29.54 in the semifinal round of the national meet and a runner-up finish at the SEC Championships. The first round of the 400 meters will be run Saturday at 4:10 p.m. (CT).

The 2012 USA Junior Championships is a showcase for high school standouts and top college freshmen. The meet will serve as a qualifier for this year's IAAF World Junior Championships that will be held July 10-15 in Barcelona, Spain.
