FAYETTEVILLE – On the heels of a pair of career-best efforts during Arkansas’ dual-meet win over Oklahoma State, Tamara Myers has been selected the Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. This marks the first SEC weekly honor for the Razorback sophomore.

The North Andros, Bahamas, native posted three wins during the seventh-ranked Razorbacks’ season-opening dual against Oklahoma State. She took individual top honors in the long jump and triple jump with personal-best marks in both, and was a member of Arkansas’ first-place 4x400-meter relay.

Myers’ winning effort in the triple jump of 12.95m/42-6 is the No. 1 mark in the SEC and ranks second in the NCAA. The jump also moved her into a tie for fourth place on the program’s all-time list and added more than a foot to her previous career best. In the long jump, Myers is currently second in the SEC and fifth in the NCAA. Her jump of 6.10m/20-0.25 is the first 20-foot measurement of her career.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had a 42-footer (in the triple jump),” head coach Lance Harter said following Friday’s meet. “To have her long jump first, and with a little bit of stress on the legs, come back to triple jump is a tough double. Then to come back and run the mile relay was totally unexpected to her but I think that will pay dividends down the road.”

The seventh-ranked Razorback women opened their 2013 indoor campaign with an 81-61 dual win over Oklahoma State. Arkansas collected nine event wins with first-place efforts from Myers, Makeba Alcide in the shot put, Gwendolyn Flowers at 60 meters and 300 meters, Ivanique Kemp in the 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay team of Alcide, Myers, Kemp and Megan Paul.

Arkansas returns to action next weekend with the Texas A&M Triangular in College Station, Texas. The Razorbacks will be joined at Saturday’s competition by No. 4 LSU and host and sixth-ranked Texas A&M. The head-to-head event will be scored on a 7-5-4-3-2-1 scale in individual events and a 7-5-4 scale in the relay events.
