TULSA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team won four matches on Thursday, with three student-athletes advancing to the second round before falling in the men’s qualifying draw at the ITA Central Regional Championship in Tulsa, Okla.
Thursday’s competition featured 39 matches in the qualifying draw, including seven play-in matches. Redshirt freshman Jacob Herndon
was among the play-in competitors and won his match 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6).
Four other student-athletes, as well as Herndon, competed at 1 p.m. in the first round of the qualifying draw, notching four wins. Sophomore Santiago Munoz
defeated Nils Hallestrand of Iowa 6-3, 6-4, freshman Johan den Toom overcame Iowa’s Juan Estenssoro 7-5, 6-3 and Herndon won his second match of the day as well, beating Lovro Curcija of South Dakota State 6-4, 6-0.
Qualifying play will resume Friday at 9 a.m., in addition to the beginning of main draw singles and doubles play.
