Razorbacks host Fast pitch Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE- The Arkansas softball team will open its 2012 home season this weekend when it plays host to the Arkansas Fast pitch Invitational. Northwestern State, Tennessee State and Jackson State will all make the trip to Fayetteville to play in the round robin formatted tournament.

The Razorbacks will open the tournament Friday at 3 p.m. taking on Northwestern State, followed by a 5:30 p.m. match up with Tennessee State. Arkansas will play host to Jackson State at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The rest of the weekend will depend on the outcome of the first six games played by the four teams. Saturday afternoon the No. 2 seed is set to play the No. 3 seed at 2:30 p.m., followed by the No. 1 seed vs. No. 4 seed at 5 p.m. The tournament will conclude Sunday with the third-place game at 10 a.m., and the Championship game being played at 12:30 p.m.

Arkansas enters its home tournament with a 6-2 record, including win over then-No. 7 Baylor in the Getterman Classic on Feb. 11.

This will be the 11th   all-time meeting between the Razorbacks and Demons, with Northwestern State leading the series 6-4. The Demons, 2-8 on the season, are coming into the weekend recently falling to No. 9 Baylor.

Tennessee State is entering this weekend with an overall record of 2-2 with a win South Carolina at the Palmetto Classic in Columbia, S.C. Former Razorback and current assistant coach to the Tigers, Samantha Buckner will be making her return to Fayetteville this weekend to take on the Razorbacks. Buckner played for Arkansas from 2004-07.

The Tigers of Jackson State have started their 2012 campaign with an overall record of 6-4. This will be the first meeting between the Razorbacks and Tigers.

The tournament is set to begin Friday at 10 a.m. when Jackson State takes on Northwestern State.  Live stats and updates for the tournament will be posted on ArkansasRazorbacks.com. There will also be a live blog in place for all of Arkansas' games this weekend.
