FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas softball team went 2-0 in its home opener at Bogle Park, in the Arkansas Fastpitch Invitational, defeating Northwestern State 10-7 and Tennessee State 7-0. This improves its record to 8-2 on the season.

The Razorbacks day was filled with the bats swinging and a lot of slugging, where they scored 17 runs off of 19 hits.

Sophomore Amanda Geile started her day with a homerun over left field bringing in two runs and giving the Razorbacks the 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Northwestern State.

The Demons did not shy away from the Razorbacks hitting, they responded in the top of the third bringing in three runs to tie the game.  Northwestern State did not stop there, it added more to runs in the top of the fourth bringing home three and taking the 6-3 lead.

With two outs in the fourth, freshman Sierra Bronkey singled followed by a double by Geile. Both runs were brought in with a double from sophomore Jennifer Rambo.

In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Clairsa Navarro, blasted a triple to bring home two more runs and giving the Razorbacks the lead. Navarro had a phenomenal day at the plate recording two doubles, two triples and five RBI.

"Navarro was really clutch for us today," said Head Coach Mike Larabee. "She was really swinging the bat well."

Sophomores Ashley Martindale and Jayme Gee were brought in to give the Razorbacks the final score of 10-7 while also capturing their first win at home for the 2012 campaign.

Freshmen Kimmy Beasley and Ciara Clampitt shared the circle for the first game of the day with Clampitt recording the win improving her record to 2-0. Clampitt came into the game in the fourth only allowing one hit, one run and zero walks.

"Ciara came in and threw three great innings," said Larabee. "She really held herself well in the circle tonight."

The Razorbacks took on the Tigers of Tennessee State in their second game of the day. The first three innings were quiet, until the fourth and the bats started swinging.  After being walked, Freshman Devon Wallace and sophomore Chloe Oprzedek were brought home from one of Navarro's triples to give the Razorbacks a 2-0 lead.

The Razorbacks scored five runs in the fifth inning with no response from the Tigers, giving Arkansas the 7-0 victory.

Junior Chelsea Cohen threw all seven innings in the game verses Tennessee State allowing only four hits, one walk and no runs. She recorded four strikeouts and improved her overall record to 3-2.

"I was very excited and pleased with the way Chelsea threw tonight," said Larabee. "If she pitches like that she can beat anyone on our schedule."

The Razorbacks will be back in action tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. where they will take on the Tigers of Jackson State. Jackson State (7-5) split its games today defeating Northwestern State and falling to Tennessee State.
