FAYETTEVILLE- The University of Arkansas softball returns to the field this weekend for the opening rounds of the NCAA Softball Tournament. The team was selected Sunday as an at-large bid team to participate in the tournament and will be the number two seed in the Berkeley Regional hosted by California-Berkeley. The regional will take place on Cal's campus May 18-20 in Berkeley, Calif.
Arkansas is one of nine Southeastern Conference teams to make the NCAA tournament, most teams out of any conference. The Razorbacks will be making their fifth appearance in the tournament, first time since 2009. Only two players from the 2009 squad remain on the team, seniors
Tori Mort and
Jessica Robison.
The Razorbacks first opponent is Boston University, the champions of the American East Conference. The first pitch is set to be thrown out at 7 p.m. CT. Iona and number one overall seed California will play in the second game following Arkansas and Boston University.
The Razorbacks will leave Fayetteville for California on Wednesday and have a practice day Thursday before taking the field against the Terriers on Friday.
