FAYETTEVILLE- University of Arkansas softball signee Stephanie Canfield became the Illinois High School Association all-time career hit and run leader with 277 hits 233 runs this past spring.
The St. Joseph, Ill., native earned many athletic and academic accolades in her four years at St. Joseph Ogdon High School. Canfield received first-team all-conference, first team all-area and first-team all-state honors her senior year.
Canfield led the Spartans to a 35-0 regular season record and a third place finish at state. She finished her career at Ogdon with a .577 batting average while breaking the school records for home runs (15), triples (21), doubles (31) and RBI (144).
"She is a triple threat in the batter's box," head coach Mike Larabee said. "She can bunt, power-slap, soft-slap and she can swing away. "She has great speed defensively, has a plus arm and can cover a lot of ground in the outfield. She is somebody that can be a great table setter at the top of the line-up and make something happen for us."
Canfield also excelled in the classroom, being named an Illinois state scholar and academic letterwinner. She was also in the National Honor Society and made the high honor roll.
Canfield will be joining a Razorback team that made it to the Regional final in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
