FAYETTEVILLE -  The University of Arkansas softball team (4-0) continues its fall schedule Sunday with a doubleheader at Oklahoma State University at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Razorbacks have had a successful opening to their schedule thus far. The team defeated Evangel University and Marion Military Institute by scores of 7-1 and 12-0 respectively. Arkansas picked up two more wins Wednesday versus Butler Community College, winning game one, 7-0 and game two, 2-1.

The team has been led by excellent pitching from freshman Kelly Young and sophomore Kimmy Beasley. Young is 3-0 this fall and has made four appearances. She has totaled 18 strikeouts in her 18 innings pitched this fall. Her ERA stands at 0.39 as she has allowed one run and eight hits. Also pitching well for the Razorbacks has been 2012 SEC All-Freshman team member Kimmy Beasley. She has one win to her name and has only allowed three hits and one run in ten innings pitched. The sophomore has tallied 15 strikeouts to one walk in three appearances.

Leading the Razorbacks on offense has been a slew of players. SEC freshman of the year Devon Wallace picked up where she left off in 2012, she leads the team in hits (8), homeruns (1), doubles (2) and RBI (6). Also leading the way for the Hogs is junior Clarisa Navarro, she is hitting .500 and has had three of her six hits go for extra bases including two triples. While the veterans have looked great at the plate, the freshmen are chipping in as well. The leading freshman hitter has been Stephanie Canfield from St. Joseph, Ill. The Illinois all-time high school hits leader has taken her game to the college level, batting .500 on the early fall season. She has had six hits in 12 at bats hitting behind Devon Wallace in the two spot. Another freshman hitting the ball well has been Claire Clark from Wynne, Ark. She is 4-8 on the year with a double and three runs scored.

While success has been prevalent in the first four games of the season, the Razorbacks face their toughest test this Sunday when they travel to Stillwater, Okla. for a doubleheader versus Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls have outscored their opponents 45-0 in their first three games of the fall season. This game will be the first Division I opponent that either team has faced this fall. Head coach Mike Larabee is looking forward to this weekend’s showdown.

“It is going to be a great challenge,” Larabee said. “They have great pitching and this will be our first Division I opponent this fall. They are very well coached and have some great athletes. It should be a great doubleheader.”

After visiting Oklahoma State the Razorbacks return home to conclude their fall schedule versus Northeast Oklahoma A&M in a double header on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The games will start at 3:00 PM and 5:30 PM at Bogle Park. Admission is free to all fans.
