Wallace and Navarro honored by NFCA

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Freshman Devon Wallace and sophomore Clarisa Navarro were named to The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Region Team, announced Thursday. Wallace was named a member to the first team in the South Region, while Navarro was named to the second team.
 
Wallace, an outfielder/ designated player, leads the team with a .345 batting average, 14 home runs, 36 RBI and 37 runs scored. She is also second in hits with 48. The Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, led the SEC in home runs (12), on-base-percentage (.549), slugging percentage (.901) and walks during conference play.
 
Arkansas shortstop Clarisa Navarro made a huge impact at the plate and on the field in her debut season as a Razorback. The junior college transfer led the team in hits (58), total bases (102) and doubles (10). She averaged .339 at the plate with an slugging percentage of .596 and had 29 RBI. Navarro and Wallace are the only two Razorbacks to start all 53 games this season.
 
The SEC had 27 athletes named to NFCA Region teams between the South Region and the Southeast Region. Arkansas falls into the South Region where 10 players made the first team and two were second team. The SEC schools that make up the South Region include, Arkansas, Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State.
 
All honorees are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-American teams which will be announced May 30. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region.
 
Arkansas opens play in the NCAA Tournament on Friday in the Berkeley Regional in Berkeley, Calif. The Razorbacks will face Boston University at 7 p.m. CST.
