FAYETTEVILLEChloe Oprzedek homered in her first at-bat and Stephanie Canfield drove in a pair of runs in Saturday’s 7-5 loss to South Carolina at Bogle Park. The Razorbacks put together a rally in the seventh inning but were caught in a double play to end the game. With Saturday’s result, Arkansas is now 25-19 overall and 3-11 in Southeastern Conference play.

After a scoreless first inning, the Gamecocks struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning but Oprzedek answered in Arkansas’ half of the inning with a solo shot to right field. It was her fourth long ball of the year and the 20th of her career. South Carolina (27-15, 7-10 SEC) led 2-1 after two complete innings.

The Razorbacks took the lead with four total runs between the third and fourth innings. In the third, Jennifer Rambo was plunked to lead off the inning and Devon Wallace followed with a double. Canfield responded with an RBI infield single to bring home Rambo while Wallace scored on a sac fly off the bat of Clarisa Navarro. Amanda Geile knocked in the final run of the inning with an RBI grounder to first that plated Canfield.

Canfield drove in her second run of the game in the fourth inning but it was the final score of the game for Arkansas. The visitors pulled to within one with two runs in the fifth and took the lead for good with three runs in the sixth. The big hit was a two-run double by Ashlyn Masters that put the Gamecocks back in front. The Razorbacks had runners on first and second in the seventh inning before the game-inning double play.

The weekend series between Arkansas and South Carolina concludes Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) and it will be Bark in the Park. The first 100 dogs will receive a free water bowl with all participants receiving free dog treats courtesy of Pedigree. Fans with dogs should enter the facility at the gate located along the first-base line (see attached form).
