ELGIN, S.C. Future University of Arkansas women's golfer Regina Plasencia and former Razorback Corinna Rees moved on to the round of 32 at the Trans National Amateur Championship at Woodcreek Golf Club in Elgin, S.C., Wednesday.
Plasencia, a native of Mexico, will join the Razorbacks as a freshman this fall. She finished tied for fifth overall shooting a 147 in stroke play. Plasencia posted a 71 in the first round and 76 on Tuesday to advance to match play.
Plasencia was one-under in the first round and four over on Tuesday. She birdied the 12th hole on both rounds.
She defeated Courtney Fergusson of Houston, Texas, 3-2 in her first match of the tournament at Woodcreek. Plasencia faces Cyna Marie Rodrigez at 8:46 a.m. Thursday.
Rees, a Pebble Beach, Calif., native and recent graduate, tied for 33rd overall in stroke play shooting 79-75=154.
Rees defeated Jayde Panos of Perth, Australia, 1-up in the first match. She faces Hanules Sky Seo at 11:42 a.m. in round two.
