FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas junior-to-be Emma Lavy is taking part in the Monday qualifier at the Walmart NW Arkansas LPGA Championship at Pinnacle Country Club.
The event began with an unofficial tournament in 2007 when heavy rains cancelled play. Arkansas has been well represented in each of the years of the tournament, however, beginning with current top-ranked American Stacy Lewis. Lewis “won” the unofficial event in 2007 and has played each year since.
Lavy is taking part for the second time in her career in the Monday qualifier. She is the sixth Razorback to have a spot in the Monday’s play in and is scheduled to tee off around 1 p.m.
Former Razorback Kelli Shean played in the Monday qualifier in 2009 and made the cut to Friday’s tournament. She is the only Razorback to advance.
In addition to the qualifier, Arkansas players have been granted six sponsor’s exemptions for the tournament and this year is no exception.
Junior-to-be Emily Tubert is playing on her second consecutive exemption this year. Other sponsor’s exemptions have gone to Lewis, Lucy Nunn and Shean.
Tubert’s tee time on Friday is still to be determined but she and Lewis will both carry Razorback head covers this weekend.
Lewis will hold a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the tournament and to make a special announcement regarding the Razorbacks. Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor is also expected to speak. The time of the press conference will be released soon.
