FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s golf team capped off a successful fall season with a third place finish last week and was rewarded with a return to the top 25 in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association poll Thursday.

The Razorbacks, who started the week at No. 19 in the Golfstat.com poll, moved up to No. 13 in that same ranking system after finishing just one stroke out of a three-way tie for the win at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.

The coaches’ poll, which is release less frequently, had the Razorbacks getting votes but moved Arkansas into the No. 23 spot this week.  Arkansas was one of four new teams in the poll this week joining No. 16 Stanford, No. 20 Northwestern and Baylor who is tied for No. 24.

USC took over the top position in the poll after a recent win.  They are followed by Duke, Washington, Florida and Arizona in the top five.

The rest of the poll includes No. 6 North Carolina, Arizona State in seventh, Alabama and Oklahoma in a tie for ninth, No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 11 UC Davis, No. 12 North Carolina State, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 14 Georgia, No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Stanford, No. 17 Virginia, No. 18 Purdue, No. 19 Tennessee, No. 20 Northwestern, No. 21 Auburn, No. 22 Texas A&M, No. 23 Arkansas and Baylor and UCLA tied for No. 24.

This edition of the poll features eight Southeastern Conference schools in the top 25 with five others, Ole Miss (13), South Carolina (8), Kentucky (4), LSU (3) and Missouri (1) all receiving votes.

Arkansas had three fall tournaments finishing in the top five in each event.  They return to the competition course in mid-February at the Lady Puerto Rico Golf Classic as the season continues.
