PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - University of Arkansas sophomore-to-be Emma Lavy won her second round match and continues to advance at the 111th Women's Western Golf Association National Amateur Championship at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Thursday.

Play for the second match of the day was suspended due to heavy rain and lightning.

Lavy defeated Elle Ceresko of Jefferson Township, Pa., 7 and 6 in the Championship Flight Thursday morning.  The win moved Lavy into the round of eight Thursday afternoon.

Thursday morning matches were complete when rain moved into the area.  Play began at 3 p.m. central with eight matches in progress in the Championship Flight but was stopped at 5:40 p.m. due to weather.  Play resumed this morning at 8:30 a.m. with matches scheduled throughout the day.

The event is one of the oldest, most consecutively played women's tournaments in the country and has been played at several courses around the United States.

Texas Women's Open

Razorback junior-to-be Victoria Vela continued to dominate amateur play at the Texas Women's Open at Eastern Hills Country Club near Fort Worth, Texas.

Vela, a Mansfield, Texas, native was the low amateur at last year's event finishing fifth overall.  This year she carded back-to-back 69's and finished tied for third overall with a 138, just five strokes off the lead of this professional women's golf event.

Vela was again the low amateur in the field.  Her round on Thursday had five birdies and four bogeys as she posted a 32 on the back nine.

Wegmans LPGA Championship

Former Razorback Stacy Lewis is moving up the leaderboard at the Wegmans LPGA Championship in Rochester, N.Y., this week as well.

Lewis, who notched her first Tour win earlier this year at the Kraft Nabisco, enters Friday's play tied for fifth overall after a first round 69.  She is three strokes behind leader Yani Tseng, the player she paired with and defeated at the Kraft.

Play continues through Sunday for Lewis.
