BATON ROUGE, La. – The eighth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team maintained its lead shooting a second round 297 for 590 at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday.

Junior Emily Tubert posted back-to-back even par 72’s and is tied for the lead with a 144 after Saturday’s play.

“This is just a really great championship golf course and you have to grind sometimes,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said.  “We just did a heck of a job of just getting the most out of our round today.  We just stayed in it the whole time. It is bigger than the individual and it’s about fighting for every shot for the team and I’m really proud of how they preserved out there.”

Tubert, a Burbank, Calif., native, opened on the first tee box and seemed to struggle with a pair of bogeys on the second and third holes.

She recovered and got both strokes back only to give them back again and turn at two over.  The two-time All-American again recovered with two birdies on the back nine to finish even with 72.  She is tied for the lead with a 144.

“Emily shot two-under on the back side and I think it shows her leadership and maturity,” Estes-Taylor said.

Freshman Gabriela Lopez checked into the clubhouse tied for10th overall after a second round 76.  She was one of three Razorbacks to score 76 Saturday.  Lopez is 10th with a 147 for two rounds.

Junior Emma Lavy is tied for 19th overall shooting 150 with rounds of 74-76.  Freshman Regina Plasencia is tied for 21st with a 151 shooting a 73 on Saturday and senior Victoria Vela rounds out the Arkansas scores and is tied for 24th overall with a 152 shooting 76-76.

“It was great to see Regina bounce back with a 73 today,” Estes-Taylor said.  Emma and Gaby and Victoria all just really hung in there and made every shot count.  It was another good team effort today.”

The Razorbacks have a 10 stroke lead after two rounds.  Host and No. 30 LSU is tied with No. 25 Tulane in second with 600, behind Arkansas’ 590.  The rest of the field includes No. 29 Tennessee with 602, No. 20 North Carolina State with 603, TCU with 604, No. 18 Georgia and No. 43 Florida State tied with 608, No. 36 Kentucky with 615, No. 48 Ole Miss with 616, Wake Forest with 618, Missouri with 624, ULM with 642 and UNC-Wilmington with 664.

“We want to go out tomorrow and really focus on the little things,” Estes-Taylor said.  “We want to have fun and do it for the Razorbacks.”

Play concludes tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
