BATON ROUGE, La. –  Emily Tubert paced the eighth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team to the win while earning medalist honors at the LSU Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., Sunday.  It is the first team title since the 2010 season and the fifth individual title for Tubert – her second this season.

The final round began early Sunday morning with temps around 58 degrees and gusting winds up to 25 miles per hour.  Despite those challenging conditions, the Razorbacks hung on to their second round lead getting the win Sunday.

The Razorbacks tied the second lowest round of the day with a 309 on Sunday giving them a plus-35 899 for the three-day tournament.

I’m just really proud of this group and the way they preserved today in some really tough conditions,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said.  “To lead wire-to-wire is a really good confidence boost for this group.  Mike (Adams) and I have talked to them about staying patient and committing to the process and that when it was our time it would happen.  I’m really proud that they believe in what we’re doing and how they stayed committed.”

Tubert, a two-time All-American, finished the tournament event shooting 72-72-72=216, winning by five strokes.  She started her day on the first tee box and picked up three quick birdies on two, five and six.  She hung on to finish even and get the win.

“Emily’s round today was just awesome,” Estes-Taylor said.  “I can’t say enough about even par when it’s blowing 30 miles an hour and it says a lot about her and her ability.  We needed her today and she stepped up big for us.”

Freshman Gabriela Lopez finished tied for 16th overall shooting a 228 with rounds of 71-76-81.  Junior Emma Lavy finished tied for 23rd with a 229 that including rounds of 74-76-79 and teammate freshman Regina Plasencia was 27th overall with a 230 shooting 78-73-79.  Senior Victoria Vela rounded out the Razorbacks’ scores with a 231 shooting 76-76-79.

The team title is the first for the Razorbacks this season and is the seventh consecutive top five finish of the year.

Arkansas finished 10 strokes better than No. 25 Tulane who was second with 909.  The rest of the field included No. 30 LSU with 912, TCU with 916, No. 18 Georgia and Wake Forest tied for fifth with 919, No. 29 Tennessee with 921, No. 36 Kentucky with 924, No. 43 Florida State with 929, No. 20 North Carolina State with 930, Missouri with 935, No. 38 Ole Miss with 941, Louisiana Monroe with 966 and UNC-Wilmington with 992.

“This win gives us a little spark and momentum heading into our last regular season event in North Carolina next week,” Estes-Taylor said.

Arkansas has a quick turn around traveling to the Bryan Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C., March 29-31, before the SEC Championship in mid-April.
