BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Arkansas junior Emily Tubert posted a two-over 74 helping the sixth-ranked Razorbacks move up into a tie for eighth place at the 2013 Southeastern Conference Championship in Birmingham, Ala., Saturday.

Tubert, who posted a 76 in the first round, is tied for seventh overall and is in the clubhouse with a 150 (76-74).  She is just five strokes off the lead.

As a team, the Razorbacks shaved five strokes off yesterday’s total counting a 308 for 621 through two rounds.  Conditions were better today with sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s most of the day.

“It’s a golf course that really relies on you knowing your hole locations well,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said.  “There were some tough spots out there and if you got into some tough positions it was hard to make par.  I think again today we counted a couple of big numbers and in championships you have to eliminate the big numbers and put ourselves in position to score.  Two rounds under our belts has given us a lot of great knowledge and hopefully tomorrow we’ll put that into play and move up the leaderboard.”

Tubert and the Razorbacks began their day on the back nine, the more challenging side of the Greystone Club’s Founder’s Course.  She opened with five pars before finishing bogey-par-par-par to turn one over.  She traded strokes with a birdie on hole one and a bogey on two to remain at one-over.  Tubert held that position until the seventh hole when she bogeyed the par three after a tough tee shot.

Freshman Gabriela Lopez moved up the leaderboard Saturday with a second round 75 to pair with Friday’s 82 for a 157 and a tie for 31st overall.  She is tied with teammate Regina Plasencia who is also in the clubhouse with a 157 that includes rounds of 76-81.

Lopez’s scorecard featured five birdies, four bogeys and two doubles along with seven pars.  She opened her day on the 10th tee and dropped her first shot close to the pin to start out with a birdie for her round.

Senior Victoria Vela improved her first round score shooting a 78 Saturday.  Vela is tied for 42nd overall with a 159.  Junior Emma Lavy rounds out the Razorbacks’ scoring.  The Fayetteville, Ark., native is tied for 55th overall with a 161 that includes rounds of 80-81.

Second-ranked Alabama moved to the top of the leaderboard shooting a plus-five 293 for a 597 after two rounds.  Mississippi State is second at 609 followed by No. 18 Georgia with 611, No. 34 Kentucky and No. 31 LSU with 614, No. 40 South Carolina with 615, No. 8 Vanderbilt with 618, No. 6 Arkansas and No. 32 Tennessee tied with 621, No. 24 Texas A&M and No. 43 Auburn tied with 627, Missouri and No. 7 Florida tied with 633 and Ole Miss with 638.

Play concludes with an 8 a.m. tee time Sunday.
