FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team released its fall schedule today for the 2012-13 season. The team will compete in seven events in the fall, providing valuable experience for a youthful Razorbacks squad.
“Once again our fall schedule provides us with regional and national exposure,” head coach
Michael Hegarty said. “We are excited to again host the Razorback Classic, as well as participate in the first ever collegiate invitational hosted by the Country Club of Little Rock.”
This fall will be an excellent test for a talented young Razorback team. The Razorbacks are bringing in a very strong freshman class that was ranked the 12th best in the nation according to TennisRecruiting.net.
The team kicks off the fall by competing at the US Open Juniors Qualifying, held in advance of the US Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. In September the team will travel across the state to participate in the Little Rock Classic. The field for the inaugural event will also include Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech.
That will be followed by a trip to Los Angeles, Calif., where some of the top Razorbacks will compete in the Riviera Main Draw. The Riviera is one of the top tournaments in the country for college tennis players and will feature some of the most talented players in the nation.
The highlight of the fall schedule comes on Oct. 5-7, as Arkansas will host the Razorback Classic in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks will host Tulsa, Missouri, and Houston in the first time that the Razorback Classic has been held since 2009.
The team will then travel to the ITA Central Regional in Tulsa, an event where the team has had previous success. Last year at the ITA Central Regional the Razorbacks reached the quarterfinals of the doubles draw.
In November the team will travel to Texas for the Houston Cougar Invite, and will conclude the fall season with the ITA National Indoors in Charlottesville, Va.
“This is among the most competitive fall schedules we have ever had,” Hegarty said. “We are looking forward to making some great things happen.”
