TULSA, Okla. - The ITA Central Regional continued on Saturday as freshman Yang Pang advanced to the quarterfinals. Pang earned a three set victory at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa to become the first Razorback to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA Central Regionals since Anouk Tigu won the event in 2010 in Fayetteville.
Pang earned the win over Nebraska's Jannine Weinreich by defeating the Husker 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. A strong match from Yang Pang earned her the victory over the 5th seeded Weinreich.
"Today was a clutch performance from Pang," head Coach Michael Hegarty said. "She was fatigued from Friday's long matches, but showed great character in digging in when it was crunch time."
Pang will face Missouri's Cierra Gaytan-Leach in her next match. The match will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for a berth in the semifinals.
Also, in consolation play Saturday, Claudine Paulson defeated Central Arkansas' Simona Horsikyan 6-1, 7-5. Kimberley - Ann Surin fell to Oklahoma's Whitney Wofford in three sets 7-5, 0-6, 7-5.
