FAYETTEVILLE - Kimberley - Ann Surin and Flavia Araujo began the dual-event weekend for the University of Arkansas women's tennis team, as the Razorback pair won two of three doubles matches at the Colorado Invitational on Friday.
Taking part in Flight A doubles competition, Surin and Araujo began the day in Boulder, Colo., with a doubles win over Evy Van Genecthen and Michelle Garpenlov of Denver, 6-3. The Razorback duo advanced to the semifinals, but fell to the pair of Kathryn Hughes and Maureen Slattery from Denver, 6-3.
Araujo and Surin bounced back in the consolation final and soundly defeated Carla Tenorio Manzi and Dhany Quevedo of host team Colorado, 6-1.
"The format saw us playing only doubles today and it was an excellent opportunity to focus in more detail the elements that are critical for our success," head coach Michael Hegarty said. "In two out of three matches today we were definitely in sync."
With two more victories on Friday, the Arkansas doubles pair of Surin/Araujo improved to 4-2 overall this fall season. The two went 2-1 last weekend competing at the Little Rock Classic.
