BASEBALL (34-17, 17-9 SEC)
The 14th-ranked Arkansas baseball team took two of three games from Tennessee over the weekend. Arkansas improves to 34-17 overall and 17-9 in Southeastern Conference play. The Razorbacks have won seven of their first nine conference series for the first time since the 1999 season. With the results of the weekend, Arkansas has clinched a top 4 seed and a first round bye in the 2013 SEC Tournament. The Razorbacks close the regular season next weekend with a three-game series at Auburn. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. The series finale will be televised by CST.
MEN'S GOLF (No. 12):
The No. 12 Razorbacks begin their quest for a national championship this weekend when they host the NCAA Fayetteville Regional at Blessings, May 16-18. Arkansas is the No. 2 seed in the 14-team field hosting the likes of No. 4 Texas, No. 16 Oklahoma State and No. 21 SMU among others. Razorback players scheduled to compete include senior Austin Cook, junior Sebastian Cappelen, sophomore Thomas Sorensen and freshmen Taylor Moore and Nicolas Echavarria.
Former Razorback David Lingmerth (2010) finished second at the PGA Tour's Player's Championship on Sunday. Lingmerth played TPC at 11-under par for the four-round tournament, finishing two strokes behind Tiger Woods.
WOMEN'S GOLF (No. 5):
The No. 5 Razorback women's golf team posted a program-best tie for third place at the 2013 NCAA East Regional at Auburn University last weekend. The finish moves the Razorbacks on to the NCAA Championship May 21-24 in Athens, Ga. Head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor travels Emily Tubert, Emma Lavy, Victoria Vela, Gabriela Lopez and Regina Plasencia this week. Arkansas is making the program's sixth NCAA Championship appearance and its third in a row.
SOFTBALL (No. 21, 34-18, 12-10 SEC):
No. 21 Arkansas dropped its only game of the week to No. 7 Missouri. The Razorbacks lost their second round game of the SEC Tournament to the Tigers, 8-0, in five innings. In the tournament loss, Devon Wallace tallied her NCAA-leading 75th walk of the season. Arkansas has been selected as a No. 2 seed for the NCAA tournament and was placed in the Norman, Okla. regional. The No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners are the host site and are the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. This is the second time in as many years that Arkansas will face the No. 1 overall seed.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD (No. 5):
The No. 5 University of Arkansas men's track and field team ran its streak of consecutive overall league titles to seven with a victory Sunday at the 2013 SEC Outdoor Championships in Columbia, Mo. With the help of five SEC event titles-all won on the final day of competition-the Razorbacks finished the meet with 152.5 points to complete the program's second-consecutive SEC Triple Crown. The win also marks the 18th SEC outdoor team title in program history, and third in a row for Arkansas. Sunday's highlights featured event titles from Leoman Momoh at 800 meters, Patrick Rono at 1,500 meters, Kemoy Campbell at 5,000 meters, Caleb Cross in the 400-meter hurdles and Andrew Irwin in the pole vault. A tape-delayed broadcast of the 2013 SEC Outdoor Championships will air May 23 on ESPNU at 7 p.m. (CT). Arkansas' postseason schedule continues May 23-25 with the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin, Texas.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD (No 6):
The No. 6 University of Arkansas women's track and field team finished in third place at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Columbia, Mo. The Razorbacks finished the meet with 109 points behind five event titles, three of which were won Sunday. On the last day of competition, Arkansas collected SEC titles in the 400 meters by Regina George, 400-meter hurdles by Sparkle McKnight and 4x400-meter relay. The team also had earlier wins by Makeba Alcide in the heptathlon and Grace Heymsfield in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The team's finished marked the fourth straight top-four finish at the SEC Outdoor Championships. The top-four teams at this year's SEC meet were separated by just 11 points.A tape-delayed broadcast of the 2013 SEC Outdoor Championships will air May 23 on ESPNU at 7 p.m. (CT).
