OUTLOOK: He has never started a game for the Razorbacks, but he is one of the veterans of the secondary and he goes into fall camp listed as the starter at strong safety ahead of redshirt freshman Bret Harris. Washington has played in 36 games in his career, and with all four starters gone from last year’s defensive backfield, he will be counted on to provide leadership in the secondary this year. In the Red-White Spring Game, he had three tackles, two assists, and recovered a fumble. In the first major scrimmage of the spring, he was third on the team with 11 tackles. He had five solo tackles, a 10-yard sack and returned a fumble 32 yards. In the second scrimmage, he had four tackles, two solos and two assists.

2007: Washington played cornerback and was a regular in the secondary, appearing in 12 games. He recorded 22 tackles, a half tackle for loss (-6) and one quarterback hurry. He made 15 of his tackles on special teams. – Washington made two tackles in the season opener against Troy and played 43 snaps. He played four snaps in the defensive secondary at Alabama and had three special teams stops. Washington made one solo tackle on special teams against Kentucky. He did not see time on the defensive side of the football, but made two assisted stops on special teams against North Texas. His four-tackle effort vs. Chattanooga earned him Hogwired.com Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Washington played on special teams at Ole Miss, but did not register any statistics. He added three more special teams tackles vs. FIU with three assisted stops. Washington played on special teams vs. South Carolina, but did not record a tackle. He did not record any statistics at Tennessee, but he did play 11 snaps on defense. Washington made a season-high five tackles with four coming on 16 snaps at the dime cornerback and one assisted special teams tackle against Mississippi State. He did not have any statistics against Missouri in the Cotton Bowl.

2006: Washington appeared in 13 of the Razorbacks’ 14 games, missing only the Capital One Bowl against No. 7 Wisconsin. The full-time special teams contributor also saw snaps as a reserve in the Razorback secondary at strong safety. He was one of Arkansas’ most consistent special teams players. He tied for second on the squad with eight tackles on the kickoff coverage unit. Washington was also on the punt return unit. He earned a total of 11 tackles on the season with nine of those coming as solo stops. He made at least one tackle in eight of his 13 outings. He tallied a season-high three tackles against No. 4 Florida in the SEC Championship Game. – He opened the season with a solo tackle against No. 4 USC. Washington logged six snaps in the secondary as well. He followed with solo tackles in the next two games against Utah State and Vanderbilt while playing four snaps against USU and three against Vanderbilt at strong safety. He played eight snaps on defense and worked on special teams against No. 22 Alabama. He didn’t have a tackle against the Crimson Tide. Washington made one solo stop in Arkansas’ upset of No. 2 Auburn. He earned an assisted stop on special teams against Southeast Missouri State. He logged nine snaps in the secondary against Ole Miss, but didn’t register defensive statistics. Washington came up empty on the tackle chart against Louisiana-Monroe, but rebounded with a two-tackle effort at South Carolina. He earned one solo and one assisted stop in the Hogs’ win over the Gamecocks. He concentrated on his role on special teams in games against No. 13 Tennessee, Mississippi State and No. 9 LSU. He tallied one solo stop against the Bulldogs. Washington racked up a season-high three tackles against No. 4 Florida in the SEC Championship Game. All three of his stops were of the solo variety. Two of the three tackles came during play in the secondary.

2005: He worked on his mechanics at free safety in his redshirt season.

2004: He appeared in all 11 games as a reserve in the secondary and on special teams. He racked up 14 tackles, including seven solo stops, in his true freshman campaign. He tallied three of his tackles on special teams. He earned at least one tackle in five of 11 contests. He made a career-high three tackles against No. 16 Florida. He tied for the team lead with two fumble recoveries. He led the Hogs in fumble return yardage with 31 yards. He ranked tied for fourth in the SEC with 0.18 fumble recoveries per game. – He returned a fumble for 21 yards and earned an assisted tackle in his first collegiate game against New Mexico State. He returned the fourth-quarter fumble to the NMSU 16-yard line. Arkansas scored on the ensuing drive to ice a 63-13 win over the Aggies. He played, but did not earn a tackle against Texas, Louisiana-Monroe and Alabama. He tallied a career-best three tackles, all solo, in extended playing time against No. 16 Florida. Most of his secondary action came in the second half of the Hogs’ 45-30 loss to the Gators. He did not make a tackle in action against No. 4 Auburn. He played against No. 6 Georgia, but did not earn statistics. He did not make a tackle against South Carolina. He made three tackles and earned his second fumble recovery of the season in the Razorbacks’ 35-3 win over Ole Miss. He returned a fumble 10 yards to halt a prospective Rebels’ scoring drive at the Hogs’ 18-yard line in the fourth quarter.  He played, but did not earn a tackle in Arkansas’ 24-21 road win at Mississippi State. He tallied an assisted tackle in the Hogs’ loss to No. 12 LSU.

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER: He is a standout product from the same high school that produced former Razorbacks Randy Garner and DeCori Birmingham. He had 80 tackles, four interceptions, five punt returns for touchdowns, 316 yards receiving and 268 rushing yards in his senior season for Coach Ben Schamberg. He helped his team go 12-4 and capture the Class 3A Division II state championship. He returned two punts for touchdowns in a 34-0 win in the state championship game. He played against former Razorback Matterral Richardson in that contest. His scores were from 90 and 79 yards on punt returns in that game. He earned all-state honors at defensive back and as a kick returner. An All-Texas selection at DB (all classifications), he was also named one of the top 25 athletes in Northeast Texas. His track teams won state titles his sophomore and junior years. He was also recruited by Purdue, TCU, Texas A&M and SMU.

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 9, 1985, he is the son of Victor and Vernell Rowe. He is majoring in sociology. Washington was named a Hard Working Hog for the 2004-05 academic year. He was also a member of the Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll for Spring 2006.
