FAYETTEVILLE - Freshman John Clay Reeves tied the game with a homer in the top of the eighth and the Cardinal team took the lead for good with five runs in the top of the 10th to claim an 8-3 win in game two of the Cardinal-White series on Sunday afternoon at Baum Stadium.

With the victory, the Cardinal team takes a 2-0 lead in the series. After an off day tomorrow, game three is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Baum Stadium. Freshman right hander Greg Milhorn will start for White in game three, while Cardinal will throw sophomore righty Logan Taylor.

With the game tied at three in the top of the 10th, the Cardinal offense exploded for five runs to take an 8-3 lead. With one out, Bo Bigham was hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a walk to Ficociello. Dane Phillips drove in the eventual game-winning run with a RBI single to left field. A walk to Franco Broyles loaded the bases with one out. Jacob Morris cleared the bases with a three-run double to the alley in left-center field to stretch the lead to 7-3. Matt Vinson closed the scoring with a RBI single to center field, bringing home Morris.

The White team went down in order in the bottom of the 10th to end the game.

Nolan Sanburn earned the victory out of the bullpen for Cardinal, tossing two shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts. Barrett Astin took the loss for White, giving up three runs on a hit and three walks in an inning of work.

The starting pitchers for both teams went deep into the ballgame. Randall Fant started for White and threw 8.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with two strikeouts. Brandon Moore got the start for Cardinal and gave up three runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 7.1 innings.

Phillips and Vinson each had a pair of hits to lead the Cardinal offense. Phillips drove in a pair of runs, while Vinson had a RBI and a run scored. Morris had a team-high three RBI for Cardinal. Reeves hit the game-tying homer in the eighth inning for his only hit of the game.

Eric Fisher had two hits for the White team. Brian Anderson and Jacob Mahan each had an RBI in the loss.

The Cardinal team grabbed an early lead with a run in the top of the first. Bigham reached on a fielding error by the third baseman to start the inning and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ficociello. A single up the middle by Phillips brought home Bigham for the game's first run.

White took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. Jake Wise drew a leadoff walk. Kyle Atkins then reached on an infield single. The throw to first to try and retire Atkins went off Ficociello's glove, allowing Wise to advance to third on the error. Mahan tied the game on a groundout to second, which scored Wise. After Atkins stole third, he came across the plate on a wild pitch to put White in front 2-1.

Cardinal tied the game at two in the top of the fifth. Vinson singled to lead off the inning and a sacrifice bunt by David Masters advanced Vinson to second. Vinson then moved to third on a stolen base. After a ground out to short by Reeves, Tim Carver came through with a clutch two-out RBI single, grounding a base hit into right field to score Vinson.

White regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Matt Reynolds laced a triple to the right-center field gap and scored on a base hit to left by Anderson.

Cardinal evened the game at three in the top of the eighth when Reeves led off the inning with a no-doubt solo homer over the left field seats to tie the game at three, setting the stage for the five-run outburst in the 10th inning.
