Adrians Zguns to Open NCAA Singles Championships Wednesday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas senior tennis player Adrians Zguns begins play in the NCAA Individual Draw Singles Championship against Wednesday at Stanford University’s Taube Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif.

Zguns will take on Ytai Abougzir of Florida St. in the opening round at 2:30 p.m., Central.

The 17th-ranked Zguns is 24-12 in 2006, and the Liepaja, Latvia native reached a No. 13 national ranking earlier this spring. Zguns’ 16-9 record in dual matches helped Arkansas reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament and to their highest win total (18) since 1989.

Zguns is making his second career appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships. He advanced to the second round of the 2004 Individual Draw after going 36-10.

Abougzir is ranked 36th nationally and is 16-18 on the season. He is making his first NCAA Singles Championship appearance and has been as ranked as high as No. 32 in the country this year.
