Airapetian joins team in main draw of ITA Central Regional

TULSA, Okla. – Nanar Airapetian registered a pair of wins in the opening round of singles qualifying at the 2006 ITA Central Regionals hosted by Tulsa University. Airapetian swept Alyssa Palen of Iowa State, 6-1, 6-1, to set up her second-round match with Nora Kuruc of Tulsa. Airapetian downed the Golden Hurricane’s player in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to reach the main draw.

Melissa Hoffmeister almost joined Airapetian in the main draw. The freshman defeated Tereza Prochazkova of Kansas State, 7-5, 2-6, 13-11, to advance to a second-round match against Marta Gomez-Jordana of UALR, falling in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.Arkansas’ other player in the qualifying round lost her opener as Carly Dixon fell 6-3, 6-3, to Stephanie Smith of Kansas.

Airapetian advanced to the main draw of the regional, joining teammates Ela Kaluder, Mayori Franco, Audrey Bordeleau and Stacey Wilhelm in Thursday matches.
