FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After finishing in a close first place (23:53) at the 66th annual Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on October 5, junior All-American Alistair Cragg was named Southeastern Conference Male Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
“He ran a great race,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “There is no doubt about. And he ran against good people. You can’t get any better competition than at the Jamboree. You don’t have to fly to California to get competition when Abilene Christian is right down the road.”
The OSU Jamboree, which included a field of over 200 runners, was Cragg’s first meet of the season and his second first-place career finish. His top finish helped lead the Hogs to claim their third-consecutive team victory for the 2002 season with 31 points.
Cragg was the second Razorback to be named SEC Athlete of the Week this season. Junior All-American Daniel Lincoln earned the same honor on September 24, after he recorded a career-best time (23:55) and first place finish at the Missouri Southern Invitational.
The second-ranked Razorbacks will enjoy a week off while they prepare to host and run at the 8K Chile Pepper Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Razorback Cross Country Course at Agri Park. They will then begin to focus on the SEC Cross Country Championships in Gainesville, Fla., on November 4. Arkansas will be vying for their 29th-straight conference crown at the 8,000-meter race.
