FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Seven members of the University of Arkansas men’s track and field team earned spots on the 2014 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, as announced by the organization earlier this week. The Razorback were represented by Nathanael Franks, Solomon Haile, Eric Janise, Kevin Lazas, Ken LeGassey, Andrew Pisechko and Tomas Squella.
Five of the Razorbacks’ seven academic honorees were also All-Americans in their respective events during the 2014 track and field season. For his work in the classroom, Pisechko became the first Razorback in program history to win the Elite 89 Award when the honor was announced in March. Haile was an SEC champion this past season when he took first at 5,000 meters at the indoor conference meet.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. For the indoor season, the student-athlete must have finished in the top 96 in an individual event or in the top 48 in a relay event. For the outdoor season, the student-athlete must have participated in any round, including Preliminary, of the NCAA Championships.
Arkansas tied for the most selections among Southeastern Conference (SEC) programs with its seven student-athletes. Pisechko was one of 17 student-athletes listed with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Overall, the SEC is second in the country with 39 honorees.
