All-Arkansas all the time in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The spectacular heart within the University of Arkansas Razorback doubles duo of Nanar Airapetian and Anouk Tigu surged them to the doubles title Sunday at the ITA Central Region Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Airapetian and Tigu started their Sunday off by routing Boise State’s Pichittra Thongdach and Vivian Silfany, 8-6. Aurelija Miseviciute and Ela Kaluder, ranked 10th nationally in doubles, dropped the other Bronco duo of Lauren Megale and Klaudia Wlodarczyk, 8-4.

The doubles victories set up for an all-Razorback doubles championship as Airapetian and Tigu triumphed, 8-6, over their teammates. With the win, the duo advances to the ITA National Indoor Championships on Nov. 7 in Charlottesville, Va.

“We certainly had one of our best regional tournaments ever this week,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “We gained a ton of confidence and look forward to finishing our fall season strong.”

With the loss in doubles Kaluder, a senior from Croatia, saw her ITA fall season end, but not without significant recognition. Kaluder finishes with a lifetime record of 22-2 at the Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City, and an outstanding 35-6 record at the ITA Central Region Championships. She won a singles and doubles title in the process of accumulating such remarkable records.

In singles action, Tigu defaulted her finals match against Wiveca Swarting of Nebraska in order to increase her play in doubles action. By making it to the finals in singles, Tigu qualifies herself for the ITA Indoor Championships in November.
