Allen to redshirt for 2005-06 basketball season

FAYETTEVILLE – Sophomore post player Danielle Allen will redshirt the 2005-06 season for personal reasons, University of Arkansas women’s basketball coach Susie Gardner announced today. “I want to thank Coach Gardner and my teammates for supporting me in my decision to take this year off,” Allen said. “This past year has been a blessing, and I am looking forward to playing again at Arkansas.” Allen averaged 9 ppg and 5.4 rpg for the Lady Razorbacks starting all 31 games as a sophomore after a freshman season that saw here play in 27 games for Arkansas. “Danielle and her family have our full support,” Gardner said. “The whole Lady Razorback family is behind her and she is a part of our program. We’ll miss her on the court, but we are counting on her to still provide leadership for her teammates.” Allen worked out with the team during spring conditioning and will take part in summer voluntary workouts. She is expected to sit out the fall semester and reenroll at midterm. “I’m looking forward to her playing after next season, and finishing her athletic and academic career at Arkansas,” Gardner said. Arkansas finished the season 17-14 overall, reaching the second round of the Women’s NIT.
